Today, 31 August, we celebrate the Baltic Sea. Baltic Sea Day is an annual celebration of the sea launched by the John Nurminen Foundation. The John Nurminen Foundation aims to save the Baltic Sea and its heritage for future generations. Quriiri supports the Foundation with an annual donation. The donation is a concrete demonstration of how we are implementing the sustainability theme in our company.
Sustainability has been an important theme for us since Quriiri was founded. For us, sustainability is a way of being and doing. We strive to take responsibility into account in our activities, because we have both an obligation and an opportunity to do so. By acting responsibly, we are able to develop our activities on a sustainable basis and create better conditions for future generations.
”Responsibility is not forced on us, but we see it as an intrinsic part of our business and the right way to do business. We are also pleased to see that more and more of our customers have their own sustainability criteria when choosing partners. In these situations too, we have been able to use sustainability as an asset,” says Quriiri's co-founder and Chief Business Officer Lasse Lohikoski.
Responsible action is about values that translate into actions. Responsibility is reflected in our activities in a number of ways:
Staff well-being
We recognise that people are our most important asset and work for their well-being. We have a more comprehensive healthcare system than usual and offer our employees a flexible and supportive working environment.

Equality
We have zero tolerance for discrimination, racism and bullying. We welcome everyone's ideas and work together to improve things.
Environment
We have identified that our activities have an impact on the environment mainly through energy consumption in our data centres and commuting. We have sought to address these issues, including through the following measures:
- Of the data centres we operate, both use 100 % of renewable energy
- We provide the tools you need to work remotely, including internet access.
- We try to avoid unnecessary travel
- We strive to participate in projects related to environmental protection, such as our annual donation to the John Nurminen Foundation for the protection of the Baltic Sea.
Subcontractors and partners
We use subcontractors and partners who share the same sustainability values with us.
Honesty
We are open and honest with our employees, customers and other stakeholders. We take responsibility for our decisions and actions.
Developing corporate responsibility is an ongoing process
Developing corporate responsibility is an ongoing process for us, and we strive to adapt our own responsibility activities according to situations and circumstances. We will continue to be proactive on sustainability issues and develop new ways to act responsibly in every area of our business.
In particular, environmental responsibility has become an increasingly important value for Lasse, both in his personal and professional life.
”I am guided daily by environmental values and strive to take the environment into account in everything I do. As an entrepreneur, I also have a great opportunity to influence these issues and I want to do so. Of course, you can't be perfect at everything, but I feel that my values are guiding me, our business and my family in the right direction,” says Lasse.

Environmental responsibility has created a new hobby for Lasse and he is actively involved in stream restoration in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and his cottage community of Inkoo.
On Baltic Sea Day, we also want to encourage other companies to support our precious sea. Eutrophication is the biggest problem facing the Baltic Sea, but our Baltic Sea is also threatened by oil and chemical transport, natural degradation and climate change. John Nurminen Foundation is doing concrete work to save the Baltic Sea.
