SMS Sender ID
In Finland, every SMS sender ID must be authorised. From 2 November 2026, messages sent with an unauthorised sender ID will be blocked or marked as spam. With Quriiri, you can request authorisation directly in the user interface or via the API.

Authorisation handled directly in Quriiri
Authorising your sender ID through Quriiri doesn’t require spreadsheets or long forms. You submit the request directly in the user interface or via the API, and Quriiri takes care of the rest.
Submit an authorisation request in the user interface or via the API.
Quriiri reviews the request and forwards the sender ID to the mobile operators.
Processing usually takes 4–14 working days.
Once approved, the sender ID can be selected in the user interface and retrieved via the API.
SMS Sender ID Authorisation and Registration
Under a new regulation issued by Traficom, SMS Sender IDs used in Finland must be managed on two levels:
1. Authorisation (mandatory from 4.5.2026)
All telephone numbers and named sender IDs used in Finland must be authorised by the local telecoms company.

The second phase of Traficom’s regulation takes effect on 2.11.2026. After that, unauthorised sender IDs will be changed to “Roskaposti” (Finnish for “spam”) or the messages will be blocked entirely.
2. Registration (optional)
The SMS Sender ID can also be protected by registering it with Traficom.

The company gets exclusive rights to that sender name.

No one else can use the same name to send messages.

The risk of abuse and scam messages is significantly reduced.

Your SMS provider must be authorised to deliver messages with a registered SMS Sender ID.

Protecting Your SMS Sender ID Through Registration
By registering your own SMS Sender ID, you can prevent any other party from using the same SMS sender information in Finland. A registered SMS Sender ID helps your customers recognize your messages as trustworthy.

If anyone other than an approved party attempts to send messages using your registered sender name, the messages are automatically blocked

Frequently asked questions about authorization of a sender ID
Can a company have more than one sender record?
Yes. For example, many organisations have a named SMS Sender ID for information messages and a numbered SMS Sender ID for two-way communication.
Can I use any name as a sender?
For each SMS message sent via Quriirin, you can set either alphanumeric (text, 11 characters) or numeric (15 digits) sender information. From 4.5.2026, the sender information must be either authorised or registered. The name must be related to the activity of the transmission.
What is the difference between authorisation and protection?
Authorisation is mandatory and ensures that you are authorised to use the sender ID/number. Quriiri will carry out the authorisation on behalf of the customer. Authentication is voluntary. By registering a consignor number with Traficom, you can protect your consignor number. The protection gives you the exclusive right to a registered nominal consignor's number in Finland.

How do I know if my sender ID will still work after 2 November 2026?
f you send messages through Quriiri, your authorised sender IDs are shown in the user interface. An approved sender ID can be selected when sending a message, and it can also be retrieved via the API. If you can’t find your sender ID, submit an authorisation request in the user interface or via the API. Processing usually takes 4–14 working days, so we recommend submitting the request by mid-October at the latest.
