This year, we have again decided to give our Christmas gift to the Baltic Sea by supporting the John Nurminen Foundation. The Foundation is doing vital work to protect the Baltic Sea: it launches concrete projects to combat eutrophication, preserve biodiversity and keep the cultural heritage of the sea alive.
Although the state of the Baltic Sea has improved by many measures over the decades, the work is far from complete. Problems caused by eutrophication, such as blue-green algae blooms and acidification of the seabed, are still a reality. This is not only an ecological challenge, but also a cultural and economic one. We all have a responsibility to act - not only as coastal states on the Baltic Sea, but also as individuals and communities.
