Sustainability is increasingly at the heart of today's business, and at NextUp, the company that develops Quriiri, we have taken sustainability issues into account in our operations from the very beginning. We feel that as a company we have an obligation, but also an opportunity. By acting responsibly, we can develop our business on a sustainable basis and create better conditions for future generations.
Responsibility is not forced on us, but we see it as an intrinsic part of our business and the right way to do business. We are also pleased to see that more and more of our customers have their own sustainability criteria when choosing partners. In these situations too, we have been able to use sustainability as an asset.
What does sustainability mean for us?
Sustainability can mean many different things and at NextUp we have identified the following areas of corporate responsibility:
Social responsibility
- We offer our employees a flexible and supportive working environment.
- We comply with laws and regulations.
- We have zero tolerance for discrimination, racism and bullying.
- We use subcontractors and partners who share the same sustainability values with us.
- We are open and honest with our employees, customers and other stakeholders.
- We take responsibility for the decisions we make and the actions we take.
Environmental responsibility
We have identified that our activities have an impact on the environment mainly through energy consumption in our data centres and commuting. We have sought to address these issues by, among other things:
- Of the data centres we use, one uses 100 % renewable energy and the other at the moment 92 %:sti (target 100 %).
- We encourage teleworking and provide the tools to do it.
- We try to avoid unnecessary travel.
- We have tried and will continue to try to source office furniture from recycled sources.
- Our Espoo office sorts the following materials: cardboard, biowaste, paper, metal and electronic waste.
- We strive to participate in projects related to environmental protection, for example, in 2020, instead of giving customers summer gifts, we have donated customer gift funds to. To the John Nurminen Foundation Protecting the Baltic Sea.
NextUp's corporate responsibility development is an ongoing process
Developing corporate responsibility is an ongoing process at NextUp, and we strive to adapt our own responsibility activities according to situations and circumstances. We will continue to be proactive on sustainability issues and develop new ways to act responsibly in every aspect of our business.
Co-founder and Managing Director of NextUp Oy Lasse Lohikoski says that, as he has grown up, responsibility has become a more important value for him, both in his personal and professional life:
I am guided daily by environmental values and strive to take the environment into account in everything I do. As an entrepreneur, I also have a great opportunity to influence these issues and I want to do so. Of course, you can't be perfect at everything, but I feel that my values are guiding me, our business and my family in the right direction. Being environmentally responsible has also created a fun new hobby for me, as I am actively involved in stream restoration projects in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and my cottage municipality of Inkoo.
