When a text message arrives, the first thing we see is who it's from. What options do companies have for setting the sender information? In this article, we'll go through the differences between the different sender IDs and help you understand when and how to use them.
Self-selected SMS Sender ID: for one-way communication
Under certain conditions, you can set your own sender ID Quriiri. An alphanumeric sender ID allows you to use, for example, a brand name as sender information. You can set a unique sender ID that contains both letters (A-Z, upper and lower case) and numbers (0-9), making your messages instantly recognisable. The alphanumeric (Aa-Zz) identifier is between 2 and 11 characters long and the numeric identifier is between 15 digits long.
Please note that these messages cannot be replied to. However, for one-way communication they work perfectly.

Longcode number: send and receive messages
Use the longcode number as sender information when you want your SMS messages to be answered. Longcode number is like a virtual phone number that looks like a regular mobile number. It allows you to receive messages from foreign mobile phone subscriptions and is also available with country-specific numbers. Answering the longcode costs the consumer the price of a normal SMS.
A longcode number is a low-cost alternative for two-way communication. As a Quriiri customer, the number is dedicated to your company and you can easily get it through us.

Abbreviated number: the number registered for your company
Short code is 5 or 6 digits. It is registered in the name of the company and issued by Traficom. The numbers are regulated and can be used to identify the sector, service or content to which they relate and the company in which they are registered. The abbreviated numbers are 12-, 13-, 16-, 17- and 18-letter numbers. From the beginning of the number, it is also possible to identify whether the number is reserved for business use (12 digits), a customer service number (16 digits) or even a free service (18 digits). You can check abbreviated numbers and search for free numbers Traficom’s website.
Short numbers are country-specific: you can only send messages to a Finnish short number from Finnish mobile numbers. If you are communicating internationally and want to receive SMS messages from a particular country, you should choose the local longcode for that country.

Registered SMS Sender ID
In Finland, businesses can register a sender ID To the Traficom. By registering an ID, a company can ensure that no one else uses the same sender ID in Finland. This can increase reliability and prevent misuse. The protected sender identifier must be exactly the same as the business name, ancillary business name or parallel business name of the organisation sending SMS messages in the Finnish Enterprise and Community Information System (CIS).
Traficom also instructs that the identifier to be protected must meet the format requirements of the SMS Sender ID standard. The SMS Sender ID is 3-11 characters long and the characters allowed are 0-9, a-z, A-Z and space. The SMS Sender ID is registered in a case-insensitive manner.
