Transport and Communications Agency Traficom and telecoms operators have worked together to develop ways to help organisations protect themselves against SMS scams that use their name. From 9 November 2023, organisations will be able to protect their sender ID, so that recipients of a message can be sure of its authenticity. Sender ID protection is a key tool to limit SMS scams.

The new regulation allows organisations to protect the SMS Sender IDs they use and ensure that no one else can use the same SMS Sender ID in Finland. Applications for Sender ID protection can easily be made on the Traficom website at form via.

What is the SMS Sender ID?

SMS Sender ID (SMS Sender ID ) is the sender's ID that is visible to the recipient of the SMS message. The sender ID to be protected must be exactly the same as the sender ID in the Finnish Enterprise and Community Information System (YTJ) of the organisation sending SMS messages.

Traficom also instructs that the identifier to be protected must meet the format requirements of the SMS Sender ID standard. Registering your SMS Sender ID
