Transport and Communications Agency Traficom and telecoms operators have worked together to develop ways to help organisations protect themselves against SMS scams that use their name. From 9 November 2023, organisations will be able to protect their sender ID, so that recipients of a message can be sure of its authenticity. Sender ID protection is a key tool to limit SMS scams.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new regulation allows organisations to protect the SMS Sender IDs they use and ensure that no one else can use the same SMS Sender ID in Finland. Applications for Sender ID protection can easily be made on the Traficom website at form<\/a> via.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dThe possibility to register sender information is a very welcome change to the Finnish SMS market. It will effectively limit the opportunities for SMS scams and help maintain trust in SMS as an effective and secure communication channel in the future.\u201d<\/em>, says Quriiri's CEO and founder Lasse Lohikoski<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the SMS Sender ID?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SMS Sender ID (SMS Sender ID ) is the sender's ID that is visible to the recipient of the SMS message. The sender ID to be protected must be exactly the same as the sender ID in the Finnish Enterprise and Community Information System (YTJ) of the organisation sending SMS messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- business name<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- an auxiliary name, or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- parallel name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traficom also instructs that the identifier to be protected must meet the format requirements of the SMS Sender ID standard. The SMS Sender ID is 3-11 characters long and the characters allowed are 0-9, a-z, A-Z and a space character. The SMS Sender ID is registered in case-insensitive format. (Traficom<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registering your SMS Sender ID<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A person authorised by the company can apply for registration of the SMS Sender ID by filling in the form available on the Traficom website. application form<\/a>. Traficom charges an annual fee set by the Ministry of Transport and Communications for the registered SMS Sender ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
